Film in malaysia incentive plus

The Malaysia Government introduced the “Film In Malaysia Incentive” (FIMI), a 30% cash rebate on all qualifying Malaysian Production Expenditure (QMPE), to provide an additional financial incentive for creative content development specifically for film, television and other screen production.

  • Qualifying Malaysian Production Expenditure(QMPE) of MYR 5 million for production (inclusive of post production); or
  • 10% of total QMPE or MYR 1 million spent (whichever higher) on facilities & services of Iskandar Malaysia Studios
  • Application to be sent to Studio Film Office
  • At least 30% of the total production crew has to be Malaysian
  • o Intern requirement : 5 interns minimum of every increase of RM50 million in QMPE

FILM ELIGIBILITY

The formats which are eligible for FIMI are :

FEATURE FILMS

A feature film is intended to mean a Film of at least sixty (60) minutes in length that is intended to be screened as the main attraction in commercial cinemas.

SERIES

This is a stand-alone programme of at least one hour in length that is exhibited commercially in a medium other than cinema. Min 200.00 per hour.

DOCUMENTARY

A documentary is defined as a programme that is a creative treatment of actuality other than news, current affairs, light entertainment programme.

single episode programme

This is a stand-alone programme of at least one hour in length that is exhibited commercially in a medium other than cinema. This category includes telemovies or movies-of-the-week.

REAILITY PROGRAMME

The television series depicts those events in a dramatic or entertaining way with a heavy emphasis on dramatic impact or entertainment value ( capped at 20% cash rebate )
